LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. Alton H. Danner, Sr. of Lincolnton, GA. went home to be with Jesus, Wednesday, December 4th, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Mae Adams Danner. He was born March 18, 1924 to the late Harvey and Lillie Danner. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Mary Danner Scott, Anita Danner Martin and brothers, Harvey Leon Danner, Billy Joe Danner and Robert "Bobby" Danner. Mr. Danner was affectionately known by those who knew and loved his as "Papa". Papa , a member of the Greatest Generation, served his country during WWII. He was a member of the Battery B 256 Field Artillery and landed at Omaha Beach during the invasion to liberate Europe. After his military service, he was a hard worker for many years at Milliken and Mayfair Mills. Following retirement, Papa was an avid gardener and hunter. He spent many hours in his garden growing fresh vegetables. He loved to hunt quail, dove, deer and turkey. In his spare time, he enjoyed many hours of watching baseball and football. Mr. Danner worshipped at Rehoboth Baptist Church where he was member of the Men's Sunday School Class. Papa is survived by two sons: Alton Danner Jr. and Diane of Lincolnton and Harvey Mack Danner and Jan of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Al Danner III of Evans, GA, Phil Danner and Naomi of Lincolnton and Leigh Martin and John of Fredericksburg, VA. Papa has four great grandchildren, Trey, Mackenzie, Courtney and Sadie who all loved him dearly. His extended family includes a former daughter in law, Brenda McGahee and Mack of Lincolnton. The family will receive family and friends at the home of Alton Jr. 286 Lincoln Ave, Lincolnton , GA. The graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Herman Bradley and Rev. Marty Pinon officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Ivey, Al Danner, Phil Danner, Sam Scott, Wayne Scott and John Martin.
