Obituary

LINCOLNTON , GA. - Mr. Alton Tankersley, 90, of 2762 Tankersley Rd. entered into rest on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Double Branches Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Etheridge and Rev. Ficklen Guin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Broome, Mike Broome, Mark Broome, Sherman Norman, Will Mickens, Larry Dotson, Mike McCombs, Carl Tankersley, Stan Tankersley and Chris Howard. Mr. Tankersley was the son of the late Charles Augustus Tankersley and the late Nina Millie Haynes Tankersley. He was a retired cattle farmer and business owner of Tankersley's Store and T&T Ranch. Mr. Tankersley was a member of Double Branches Baptist Church where he served as former chairman of the deacon board and Sunday School Superintentent. He was also on the original Board of Directors at Georgia State Bank, a member of the Georgia Cattleman's Association, North American Limousin Foundation, a 50 year member of the Lincolnton Masonic Lodge #354 and received a 32nd degree ring as a Shriner. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Edna Irene Ashmore Tankersley; four grandchildren, Kenneth Michael Broome of Greenwood, S.C.; Kendall Mark Broome and wife, Sabrina of Gainesville, Ga., Gena Maria Tankersley Freeman of Lincolnton and April Lynn Tankersley of Athens, Ga.; three great grandchildren, Kenneth Matthew Broome and wife, Brandi of Lincolnton, Emily Talbert Broome of Dacula, Ga. and Kenneth Mason Broome of Gainesville; one brother, Stanton Tankersley and wife,Belle of Lincolnton. Mr. Tankersley was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine "Gerrie" Tankersley Broome; a son, Terrance Alton "Terry" Tankersley; a son-in-law, Kenneth Marvin "Kenny" Broome; seven brothers, Clinton Tankersley, Hugh Tankersley, George Thomas Tankersley, Melvin Tankersley, Charles Tankersley, Theron Tankersley and Walter George Tankersley.
