IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alvin
Cox
December 19, 1946 – April 13, 2022
LINCOLNTON, GA - George Alvin Cox passed peacefully into eternity with his wife and daughters at his side on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. He was born on December 19, 1946, to the late James Edward and Doris Elizabeth Smalley Cox. Alvin lived all of his life in the Leathersville Community of Lincoln County. He graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1964 and from Georgia Southern College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
Alvin accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and, until his death, remained a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church, serving as deacon, treasurer, and general handyman, doing whatever was necessary. He inherited his giving heart from his mother, always striving to obey Christ's teaching to be a good and faithful servant. He retired after 30 years with the United States Postal Service, having worked as a clerk and a rural mail carrier. In 1980, he and his brother Leon started Cox Brothers Builders.
He enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors, tinkering in his shop, and traveling with his family. His love of travel began when he and his wife visited Disney World on their honeymoon, the first of numerous trips there with their children and grandchildren. He and his family also visited almost all of the states in the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
Alvin is survived by his wife June Harper Cox, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 11, 2022, and his daughters Julie Shannon (John) of Lincolnton; Laura Stringer (Chad) of Augusta; and Catherine Ludlow (Brandon) of Evans. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, whom he loved and lived for, Brody Shannon, Jackson Brooks, Hudson Brooks, Madison Ludlow, Piper Shannon, Brandt Ludlow, Beau Ludlow, Blake Stringer, and Landon Stringer. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Cox of Lincolnton and Bernice Cox of Greenwood.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Susan and Dudley Bryant and brothers, Leon and Ed Cox.
Funeral services will be conducted from Salem Baptist Church on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Rees Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The Reverend Robert Rayner and the Reverend Stephen Rayner will officiate.
