Obituary



LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Bevill McGill, 95, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Ashton Senior Living in Gainesville, GA.
The funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Rev. Tripp Goodwin and Rev. Dan Rosser officiating. Interment will follow in the Lincolnton City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Curt McGill, Jim Rowland, Tommy Bevill, Max McGill, Jimmy Bevill and Jai Gross. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charles Ware, Robert Dozier, Arnold Ridgeway, Lee Partridge, Larry Campbell, Grady Riddlehoover, Dwain Moss and James Rowland. Honorary Escort will be members of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
Betty was born June 14, 1922 in the small town of Kildair, GA in Effingham County. She graduated from Newington High School and attended Georgia Teachers's College now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She met and married Gene McGill in 1941 and they made their home in Lincoln County. She joined the Lincolnton Baptist Church in the early 1940's and was baptized by the late Rev. Robert C. Daniel. Betty was a devoted Christian member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class, a choir member for many years; Senior Adult Merry Makers, the Mamie Kirkland Prayer Group and the Singing Needle Quilt Makers. She served in many other areas, leaving many footprints around the church she so loved. She was a charter member of the Homer Legg Order of the Eastern Star, #535 and recently received Emirates Member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Phildelphia Winn Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. A great pleasure she enjoyed was meeting friends each Wednesday morning for a ham biscuit at Hardee's.
Betty was a huge football fan and member of the Lincoln County Red Devil Athletic Booster Club and the University of Georgia Athletic Booster Club for many years attending many games through the years, rain or shine.
Survivors include a daughter, Cherry Rowland and husband, Tony of Lincolnton; a son, Curtis McGill and wife, Lydia of Gainesville, GA; daughter-in-law, Dr. Ann H. McGill of Snellville, GA; six grandchildren, Dr. Shannnon McGill, Jennifer M. Postrell, Jim Rowland and wife, Amber, Dr.'s Julie and husband, Jai Gross, Curt McGill and wife, Kelly, and Max McGill and wife, Marcie; twelve great grandchildren, Matthew, Jordan, Chanel Postrell, Morgan and Crews McGill, Mason, Madelyn and Marilane McGill, Jayce and Carter Rowland, and Quinlan and Vincent Gross. Other survivors include a brother, Ike Bevill and wife, Jean of Tennille, GA; sisters-in-law, Shirley Beville of Jacksonville, FL and Inez McWhorter of Lincolnton; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. McGill was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Eugene "Gene" H. McGill; son, Eugene "Butch" McGill and long time friend, Coach Thomas Bunch.
