McCormick, SC - Billy Edward Lagroon, 91, entered eternal rest December 21, 2022 at his residence on East Augusta Street.
The celebration of life service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Republican United Methodist Church in McCormick.
He was the eldest son of the Late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Olin (Sadie Lois Butler) Lagroon of Callison, SC. Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Dorothy (Dottie) Bailey Lagroon and his brother George Larry Lagroon. He is survived by his brother Ansel (Jean) Lagroon, his sons Kenneth Edward (Sandy), William Larry (Teresa), Philip Allen (Dotty - late), James David (Deloris), Robert Jay. A special granddaughter of the home Zariya Lagroon and a dear daughter in law Rebecca "Becky" Lagroon Heard. Billy was a dedicated grandfather to a host of grandchildren: Alaina (Patrick - late) Steading, Lianna (Brandon) Alborg, Lacie Lagroon, Leslie Lagroon - late, Lorie Lagroon - late, Katelyne (Bryan) Graham, Robby (Carrie) Neal, Brandy (Michael Brennan) Snyder, Brandon (Amy) Snyder, Amanda (Randy) Murphy, Nicholas (Jodie) Snyder, Vertoria Anderson, Jestina (Jay) Washington, Zariya Lagroon, Daniel Lagroon and Becca Lagroon. Great grandchildren Liam Steading (late), Michael Steading, Gary Alborg, Olivia Willcox, Sarina Willcox, Molly Neal, Jack Neal, Banks Neal, Anderson Snyder, Grayson Snyder, Aubree Snyder, Knoxton Snyder, Jessica Murphy, Braxton Murphy, Kyra Murphy, Karis Murphy, Hannah Murphy, Ava Snyder, Ankoma (KJ) Anderson, Kirsten Anderson, Parker Jaye Washington.
Billy spent his early years in Callison, SC attending and graduating Edgefield County Schools. He learned to live off the land and provide for his family; skills he would continue to use and teach to others. Billy was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps. After his military service, Billy worked at the Milliken Plant in McCormick, SC for 35 years. After retiring, he and Miss Dottie took up a second "career" lovingly looking after the many children and grandchildren of family and friends in McCormick. Billy was devoted to the community of McCormick, SC and his Church. He served on the McCormick School Board for several years and volunteered his time to be the Voice of the McCormick Chiefs Football team for over 40 years. He was also one of Santa's Helpers stationed in McCormick for Christmas parades and Church functions. He was a member of the local Forestry Association through Clemson Extension- earning Forester of the Year in 2010.
Billy dedicated much of his life to the Republican United Methodist Church of McCormick where he served over the years in various roles including the Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Member, Trustee, and Finance Committee Chairman. Billy was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, boating and camping. The family is deeply saddened by the passing of this amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His
legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions in memory of Billy Lagroon be made to the Republican United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 689 McCormick, SC 29835 to aid in the creation of a Prayer Garden.
