LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. Carl V. Ivey, 90, of Hwy 220 East entered into rest on Monday, April 6, 2009 at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell, Georgia. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Joyner and Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Boyd, Carl Ivey III, William T. Ivey, Mike Miller, Bobby Parker and George Williams. Mr. Ivey was the son of the late William T. and Ruth Willingham Ivey. He served as Postmaster until his retirement from 1955 to 1983. Mr. Ivey was a veteran of the United States Army where he served his country honorably during World War II. He was recipient of the Silver Star, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, American Defense Medal and other World War II Campaign Ribbons . Mr. Ivey was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was a member of the church choir. He was also a Mason, a member of American Legion Post #194, past President and Executive Secretary of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association and was a founding member of the Martin Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include two sons, Carl V. Ivey, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Hartwell, Georgia and Phil Ivey of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Carl V. Ivey III, William T. Ivey and Sue Ellen Ivey; brother, John Marion Ivey and wife, Shirley of Martinez, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Williams Ivey and two brothers, William T. Ivey and Ben Hill Ivey.
