Obituary

McCormick, SC  - Dorothy Clyde Bailey Lagroon "Miss Dottie" entered eternal rest March 16, 2022 at Self Regional Hospital of Greenwood, SC. She was the only daughter of the Late Mr. and Mrs. William "Bill" Allen (Dorothy Leona Olgetree) Bailey of Washington, GA. Dottie is survived by her loving husband of sixty-eight years Billy Edward Lagroon. She is also survived by their five sons Kenneth Edward (Sandy), William Larry (Teresa), Philip Allen (Dotty - late), James David (Deloris), Robert Jay. A special granddaughter of the home Zariya Lagroon and a dear daughter in law Rebecca "Becky"  Lagroon Heard. Also, survived by two paternal uncles Leon (Georgia - late) Bailey of Livingston, TX and Gene (Mary - late) Bailey of Livingston, TX.

Miss Dottie affectionately helped nurture a host of grandchildren: Alaina (Patrick - late) Steading, Lianna (Brandon) Alborg, Lacie Lagroon, Leslie Lagroon - late, Lorie Lagroon - late, Katelyne (Bryan) Graham, Robby (Carrie) Neal, Brandy (Michael Brennan) Snyder, Brandon (Amy) Snyder, Amanda (Randy) Murphy, Nicholas (Jodie) Snyder, Vertoria Anderson, Jestina (Jay) Washington, Zariya Lagroon, Daniel Lagroon and Becca Lagroon.

Great grandchildren Liam Steading (late), Michael Steading, Gary Alborg, Olivia Willcox, Sarina Willcox, Molly Neal, Jack Neal, Banks Neal, Anderson Snyder, Grayson Snyder, Aubree Snyder, Knoxton Snyder, Jessica Murphy, Braxton Murphy, Kyra Murphy, Karis Murphy, Hannah Murphy, Ava Snyder, Ankoma (KJ) Anderson, Kirsten Anderson, Parker Jaye Washington.

Dottie was born and raised in Washington, Ga and a graduate of McCormick High School. She devoted her life to caring for others. Dottie was a homemaker and caregiver of sixty eight years.  She was a dedicated member of Republican United Methodist Church in McCormick where she served on various boards, committees and as a Sunday School Teacher. Dottie was recognized as United Methodist Woman of the Year. Dottie was a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years, with two of her sons achieving Eagle Scout. Dottie was devoted to the residents and children of the community. She served as a childcare provider for families of McCormick. Through this act of service she accumulated additional children and grandchildren that all held a special place in her heart. Dottie volunteered in the McCormick Public Schools from the 1970's helping with Birthday Club, providing meals to teachers and snacks for students. She was a staple at McCormick  Schools sporting events and a loyal Chiefs Fan. Dottie was also a volunteer with the McCormick County Senior Center helping pack for Meals on Wheels. Her selfless acts of service and kindness lead her to recognition as Senior Citizen of the Year (2012) and Volunteer of the Year at McCormick Elementary School (2011). Dottie was a friend to all and held many talents. She was known locally for her seamstress abilities, recipes, green thumb and listening ear.

The celebration of life service will be at 12 noon on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Republican United Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Galasso officiating.

Dottie will be greatly missed by all. The family asks that gifts made in her memory be made to the Republican United Methodist Church to aid in the creation of a Prayer Garden. Please forward donations to Republican UMC PO Box 689 McCormick, SC 29835.
