LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. Earl Phillips, 79, of Lincolnton, Georgia, passed
away on Monday night August
1, 2016 at his home surrounded by family
and friends.
He was born to the late Elex and Lula Mae Phillips of Lyons, Georgia on
April 9, 1937. In his early years, he worked on the family farm. He then
began work at The People's Bank in Lyons. Earl was drafted in the Army and
was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas and then in Korea from 1961-1962. When
he returned from service, he went back to his job at The People's Bank
where he worked until he married his wife, Janis Lewis, in 1964. After
they married, he worked at Augusta Federal Savings and Loan where he
became Vice President. He later worked at Fulton Federal and then First
Union, where he retired in 1995. Earl also handled much of the business
for his wife's gospel bluegrass group, The Lewis Family, and later The
Lewis Tradition. Earl enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing,
and eating good food.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janis Lewis Phillips, son, Lewis
Phillips and wife, Laney, and his precious granddaughter, Brooke all of
Lincolnton , three sisters, Johnnie Moxley of Vidalia, Annie Merle Moore
of Ailey, Mae Harrell of Christiansburg, VA, brothers-in-law, Esley Lewis,
Talmadge Lewis, Little Roy Lewis, sisters-in-law, Polly Williamson, Miggie
Lewis, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elex and Lula Mae Phillips,
brothers, Alton Phillips, S.E. Phillips, Wilbur Phillips, Doy Phillips,
and sisters Alene Beasley, Nita Phillips, and Jacquelyn Lilliott.
Pallbearers will be Travis Lewis, Keith Lewis, Stan Lewis, Mike Lewis,
Scott Williamson, Edward McCurry, Clarence Norman Jr., and Bob Norman.
The family would like to thank CareSouth Hospice for their wonderful care,
especially Lena Gartrell, Bim Ogunnaike, Monique Freeman, and Ashlee
Hills.

Visitation will be Wednesday 6:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home in
Lincolnton, Georgia.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4:00 pm at Hephzibah
Baptist Church in Lincolnton, GA.
with Rev. Tripp Goodwin and Rev. Ficklen Guinn officiating.
