LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. George McElveen, 82, of 1235 Lakeside Dr. entered into rest on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Lawson, Ken Mays, Cooper Cliatt, Harold Smith, Billy Wood and Bill Lessard. Mr. McElveen was the son of the late Joseph Jackson McElveen and the late Mattie Cora Sharpton McElveen. He retired after 34 years of service in Richmond County, GA. where he served as Director of Recreation, Director of Emergency Management and with the Water Works Department. Mr. Mc Elveen was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Hazel McElveen; son, Steve McElveen and wife, Beverly; daughter, Linda Fulmer and husband, Terry all of Lincolnton; grandson, Steven George "Mac" McElveen, Jr.; brother, Rev. Marion McElveen and wife, Ruth of New Albany, IN.; sister, Dottie Peterson of Augusta and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. McElveen was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret McElveen, Jewel McElveen, Elmer Burnley, Helen Wood and Jackie Adcox.
