Obituary

WASHINGTON, GA. - Mrs. Henrietta Bailey Leard, 93, lost her 12 year battle with cancer on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, Ga. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Madden officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church of Washington. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be C.H. Randall and Tom Wells. Mrs. Leard was born February 28, 1921 and was a native of Hartwell, Georgia. She married her husband, Jack Allman Leard, Sr. in Hartwell, Georgia on December 25, 1943 and moved to Washington, Georgia soon after. She was the owner and operator of Leard's Florist from 1966 until her retirement in 1999. Her passion was to console those who were grieving and celebrate life, marriage and special events through her floral arrangements. Mrs. Leard was very active within the community as she served as Pilot Club President, President of the Northeast Georgia Florist Association, was a Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of First Baptist Church of Washington. Survivors include one daughter, Janet Burgess and husband, Martin; one son, Jack Leard, Jr. and wife Patty; five grandchildren, Mandy Marable and husband, Brent, Amy Echols and husband, Chris, Molly Towles and husband, William, Maria Walker and husband, Joel, Jack Leard III and wife, Laura; nine great-grandchildren, Bailey, Caitlin, Jake, Jack, Kesley, Scout, Robin, John, and Kinsley; one brother, James Bailey. Mrs. Leard was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Allman Leard, Sr., two sisters, Lola Mae Herrin of Hartwell, Ga. and Louise Deal of North Carolina; brother, Clyde Bailey of Hartwell, Ga.
