LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. Herbert C. Dittmer, 93, entered into eternal rest with his family by his side on Friday, May 26, 2017 at his residence on Dixie Lane.
Mr. Dittmer was the son of the late Fred Dittmer and the late Eliza Salzbrenner of Amana, Iowa. He had served his country with honor during World War II and later retired after 25 years as Chief Pharmacist with the VA Hospital. Mr. Dittmer loved gardening and was an avid bee keeper. He was a member of the Lincolnton United Methodist Church, Lincoln County Historical Society and Lincoln County Humane Society.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Bettye A. Dittmer; one daughter, Leslie Dittmer-Boyle and husband, Tom of Lincolnton; one son, Roger Anchors Dittmer and wife, Ruth of Lincolnton; one grandson, Roger C. Boyle; one granddaughter, Kelli Arnold; one great granddaughter, Brooke Arnold; step grandchildren, Rebecca Charloff and husband, Steve and Donna Jones Koppelman and husband, Dr. Christopher Koppelman; step great-grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, Benjamin and Jonathon Koppelman, and Maggie and Porter Murphy. The family would like to thank the caregivers, Clara McCord, Lindsey Wright, Shanta Towns, Jessie Beard, Monique Jackson and Dianne Elam who gave such excellent care of Mr. Dittmer while he was homebound.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Herbert C. Dittmer will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Lincolnton United Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Griffith officiating. With military honors to follow.
The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 3 p.m. until the hour of service.
