LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mrs. Irene Ashmore Tankersley, 88 , of 2762 Tankersley Rd. entered into rest on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Lake Crossing Health Center in Appling, GA. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Double Branches Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Etheridge and Rev. Deryl Odom officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike McCombs, Dempsey Goolsby, Mike Broome, Mark Broome, Matthew Broome and Larry Dotson. Mrs. Tankersley was the daughter of the late Robert Bob Ashmore and the late Kate Burgess Ashmore. Mrs. Irene was a homemaker and she and her husband, Alton were owner's of Tankersley's Store. She was a member of Double Branches Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class and Gideon's Auxillary. Surviors include four grandchildren, Kenneth Michael Broome of Greenwood, S.C., Kendall Mark Broome and wife, Sabrina of Gainesville, GA., Gena Maria Tankersley Freeman of Lincolnton and April Lynn Tankersley of Athens, GA.; three great grandchilden, Kenneth Matthew Broome and wife, Brandi of Lincolnton, Emily Talbert Broome of Dacula, GA. and Kenneth Mason Broome of Gainesville; one brother, Rev. Pierce Ashmore and wife, Sue of Gainesville; two sisters, Katrina Newby of McCormick, S.C. and Linda Guin of Washington; and a very special friend, Elizabeth Gassaway of Lincolnton. Mrs. Tankersley was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Tankersley; daugher, Gerrie Tankersley Broome and son, Terry Tankersley.
