IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jackie Bufford
Wallace
May 19, 1949 – June 20, 2022
LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mrs. Jackie Bufford Wallace, 73, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 20, 2022 at her residence on Rowland York Dr.
Jackie Carol Bufford Wallace was born May 19th, 1949 in Athens, GA to Carroll Walton "Buddy" Bufford and Lilly Georgia Green Bufford. She died June 20th, 2022 in Lincolnton, GA with her husband of 53 years by her side.
She is survived by four siblings, Catherine Bufford Brantley, Lee Bufford, Bill Bufford (Kaye), and Joan Wells Weaver (Scott); as well as "honorary' sister Jan Carlin (Mike); sister-in-law, Nan Wallace Goff (Mickey); nieces, Carole Bufford (Gio Molla), Joan Bufford, Jordan Strickland; nephew, Buddy Brantley.
In 1969, she married Charles Garnett Wallace and they had two children, Charles Garnett Wallace, Jr. (Rebecca) and Catherine Lee Wallace (Ansley Miller). Garnett and Jackie had four grandchildren, Chaz Wallace, Marc Wallace, Braden Miller and Reese Miller.
"Miss" Jackie was well known in Lincolnton, GA for teaching swimming lessons to hundreds of kids in Lincoln County, as well as knitting Christmas Stockings for countless families - an art she learned from her grandmother, Georgia "GG" Green, and passed along to her daughter Lee, who keeps the tradition alive. On weekends, Jackie and Garnett could often be found helping to document hundreds of weddings, with Garnett's photography skills matched with Jackie's arranging skills.
When the kids got older, Jackie went back to school and graduated Magna Cum Laude with her education degree from Augusta College in 1991. She shifted then from "Miss Jackie" to "Mrs. Wallace," and taught 8th grade math with such gusto that people still to this day recount her as a favorite teacher. She also became Coach Wallace during this time, spreading her love of the two-handed backhand after a long day of math tricks.
Upon retirement from teaching in 2009, Jackie settled into "Camp Jackie" full time, where grandkids loved to visit and swim, pick blueberries and blackberries, and eat homemade elderberry ice cream. She loved strumming a guitar and singing to kids (she could play just about any instrument she picked up), and swimming laps in her pool.
A celebration of life may be held at a time and location to be determined. Jackie hated "fancy" things, funerals topping the list.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Lincoln County High School athletics or Lincoln County band departments and forwarded to Lincoln County Board of Education, Attn: Cornerstone, 423 Metasville Rd., Lincolnton, GA 30817.
