James Henson Obituary

James Troy “Jimmy” Henson, 79, of Flowery Branch passed away following a brief battle with lung cancer. Though his time here has come to an end, the love he shared, the life he lived, and the memories he left behind will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Jimmy was born to the late TJ and Sarah Henson. A proud graduate of Gainesville High School, Class of 1966, Jimmy went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. His military service was a source of pride and reflected his commitment to serving something greater than himself.

Following his military service, Jimmy built a long and dedicated career, retiring from Local Union 72 in HVAC after 41 years. Retirement did not mean slowing down for Jimmy. He continued to stay busy working at the Oakwood Arrow Auto Auction, keeping active and enjoying the routine of a working life even after his well-earned retirement.

Jimmy’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a Lifetime Deacon at Lakewood Baptist Church and a member of the Vision Seekers Sunday School Class. His longstanding service reflected his devotion to his faith and his church family.

Above all, Jimmy was a devoted family man. He shared his life with his loving wife, Lucary Miller Henson for over 55 years. He leaves behind his surviving son, Timothy Henson, and daughter-in-law, Amanda. He is also survived by his sister, Shelia Coffee (Greg); sisters-in-law Vi Henson, Maree Seigler (Mike), and Betty Tutor; brother-in-law Lou Miller (Kay). Jimmy was a proud grandfather to Davis, Marleigh, and Max Henson, who brought a special joy to his life. His family was an enduring part of his legacy, and the memories they shared will be treasured for generations to come.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, TJ and Sarah Henson; his son, Troy Henson; and his siblings, Lewis Henson and Betty Jane Passmore (James).

A service with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, Georgia.
