In Loving Memory of Jennie Marie Pond Freeman

Jennie Marie Pond Freeman, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2026. Born on July 10, 1952, she was just one month shy of celebrating her 74th birthday.

She was the proud mother of seven children and a Nana to twenty-one grandchildren and 11 great grand children. Family gatherings and reunions brought her happiness and she treasured having everyone together.

As a grandmother, Jennie enjoyed staying connected to her grandchildren. She always wanted updated pictures and carefully kept track of birthdays, often calling to make sure she had the correct date written down for each child. Many of her grandchildren will fondly remember late-night phone calls or voicemails from Nana simply checking in to see how they were doing. Family was special to her, and she made sure they knew they were on her mind.

Jennie found humor in the small things, enjoyed a good story, and almost always ended conversations with the words, “I love you.” She especially adored babies, whose presence brought out her tender side. While teenagers sometimes challenged her patience, she never stopped caring about their lives and future.

Like many, she was shaped by her own experiences and upbringing. Her family knew that beneath her imperfections was a woman who deeply cared and wanted the best for those she loved.

Jennie and her husband, Johnny, created many treasured memories camping with their children. She also cherished a unique family tradition of gathering her children, picking up a bucket of chicken, and spending the day tending to family grave sites. Honoring those who came before her was important, and she found great joy in preserving family memories and teaching her children to do the same.

Jennie is survived by her seven children: Lisa (Hovis) Williams, Inger (John) Archer, Torie Crumley, Jackie Pond, Bryan (Heather) Freeman, Johnnie Freeman Williams, and Joshua (Jana) Freeman; as well as her 21 grandchildren, 11 great grand children, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Freeman; her mother, Lucy Hayden; her father Clarence A. Jenkins; and her grandchild, Jeramiah Crumley.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Ms. Brenda, whose loving care, kindness, and dedication brought comfort to Jennie. Your compassion will never be forgotten.

The celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Westview Cemetery in Augusta, GA. with Rev. Raleigh Roye officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Bryan J. Freeman, Levi Archer, Johnathan Sullivan, Austin Sullivan, Rhett Williams and Hayden Williams.

Though she was not a perfect woman, she was uniquely and unmistakably Jennie—a mother and Nana who loved her family, valued traditions, treasured memories, and always sought connection with those she held dear. Her family finds comfort in knowing that her journey is complete and that her legacy lives on through the stories she shared, the traditions she passed down, and the countless conversations that ended with three simple words:

“I love you.”
