LINCOLNTON, GA - Mr. John Sidney Allen Lanier, 80, entered into eternal rest at his residence on Friday, December 8, 2023.

The funeral service will be held from the graveside at 2 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at Pine Grove UMC Cemetery with Pastor Bart Grey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. on Monday prior to the graveside service in the sanctuary at Pine Grove UMC.

He was born in Crawfordville, Ga. in Taliaferro county to the late William Henry Lanier and Jessie Mae Ivie Lanier. He graduated from Sparta High School in Hancock county. He obtained his associate degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and later attended the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

He served in the US Air Force Reserves.

He later joined the Department of Natural Resources of the State of Georgia, and worked as a state park superintendent at Cloudland Canyon State Park and Elijah Clarke State Park. He retired after 30 years of service.

He was a longtime member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

He was an avid reader who also enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two older brothers ( Preston Lanier and David Lanier), and one older sister ( Martha Ann Lanier Turner). He is survived by one sister ( Mary Frances Lanier Guill). He is also survived by Sandra T. Lanier, his wife of 59 years, his son Troy A. Lanier and wife Shannon, and grandchildren Samuel B. Lanier and Nathaniel F. Lanier.
