LINCOLNTON, GA - Mrs. Louise Flint Matthews Rice 77, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Lake Crossing Health Center in Appling, GA.
The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at First Assembly of God with Pastor Lanis Lewis and Pastor Terry Bonds officiating. Interment will follow in the Lincolnton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the hour of service at First Assembly of God.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Smalley, Tom Smalley, Phil Amason, Josh McGee, Mack Poss, Marcus Matthews and Hank Adams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Walter Mitchell and Myrtle Smalley Flint. She was employed as a secretary with Clemson University, C.E. Minerals, Lincolnton Baptist Church, Trotter Realty and retired from the Lincoln County Board of Education. Other positions that Mrs. Rice held were former secretary of Georgia Baptist Association, Charter Member and pianist of Morningside Baptist Church, organist at New Hope Baptist Church and former President of the Lincoln County Jaycettes. She was a member of the First Assembly of God.
Louise's favorite quote was "Death is not extinguishing the light, but putting out the lamp, because the dawn has come."
Survivors include five children, Glen McCurry Matthews, Jr., Michelle M. Hammond and husband, Fred, Mitchell Flint Matthews and wife, Carla, Russell Auby Matthews and wife, Valerie and David Thomas Matthews; twelve grandchildren, Macy M. Turner and husband, Clay, Peyson Lee Moss, Garrett Thomas Matthews and wife, Hannah, Marie Louise Matthews, Eleese Lynn Matthews, Brett Elizabeth Matthews, Mitchell F. Matthews, Jr., Bryan Jackson Matthews, Mackenzie Grace Matthews, Lucas Connor Matthews, Emma Grace Russell and Alec Wood Russell; three great-grandchildren, Harley Luck Turner, Larsen McLain Turner and Willa Blanche Turner; and also a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen McCurry "Mack" Matthews, Sr.; husband, Larry Carlton Rice; brother, Richie Kimble Flint; and sister, Mickie Flint McGee.
