LINCOLNTON , GA. - Mrs. Mabel Ashmore Nelson Edmunds passed away just before dawn, Sunday, May 8, 2011. Born September 19, 1926, Mabel was the daughter of Kate Burgess Ashmore and Robert Lee Ashmore of the Double Branches community of Lincoln County , Georgia . She was predeceased by her parents, her former husband, William Albert Nelson, a sister, Doris A. Goolsby and three brothers, Evan, Robert "Bo" and Robert Lee, Jr. She was a member of Double Branches Baptist Church and was faithful in attendance until her health declined. Mabel enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing for catfish in her pond that was a gift to her by her husband on her 50th birthday. She was an accomplished gardener of both vegetables and flowers and believed "One is nearer to God's heart in a garden, than any place else on earth." Mabel Nelson Edmunds is survived by her husband, Robert A. Edmunds of Lincolnton, his two sons, Bobby and Dale and wife, Jewell and their children all of Augusta. Also her only child, William Ronald Nelson, Sr. and his wife, Serena of Statesboro, GA; three grandsons, Ronald, Jr. and wife Audra of Statesboro, Davidson of Savannah and Chase and wife, Woodley of Bluffton, S.C.; one granddaughter, Louise Nelson Connell and husband, Patrick of Savannah; five great grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth, Audrey Grace, William Ronald Nelson III of Statesboro, Anderson Crawford and Chase Everett of Bluffton, S.C.; one brother, Rev. Pierce Ashmore and wife, Sue of Gainesville, GA.; and three sisters, Irene Tankersley and husband, Alton of Lincolnton, Katrina Newby of McCormick, S.C., Linda Guin of Washington, GA.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Walker Ashmore of Double Branches and several nieces and nephews. The service to be conducted by Rev. Ficklen Guin, Tuesday, May 10th at 11:00 in the morning at Double Branches Baptist Church with interment to immediately follow in the church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation to follow at graveside. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Sarah, Mary and Ruby for their faithfulness.
