Obituary

Michael Wayne Brantley
May 10, 1948 - May 15, 2024

Michael Brantley, 76, entered into Heaven peacefully after a sudden and brief battle with cancer. Michael was born in Newberry, SC to the late Mary Ella Powell. Mike was an avid trombone player, having played in high school, college, the Army reserves, Columbia County orchestra, and his church of over 37 years, West Acres Baptist Church.

Michael was an Eagle Scout recipient of the Boy Scouts of America & an Army Reserve Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for many years at E-Z-GO Textron where he helped to develop and establish the powder coating method of painting for which his papers won awards. He most recently worked at Culpepper Ace Hardware which he saw as his ministry field. Of all his accomplishments, accepting Christ as Lord and Savior was the greatest of them all. He enjoyed sharing this with people all the time through missions trips to India and Panama, jail ministry and also while teaching in his Sunday School class at West Acres when needed.

He is preceded to Heaven by his mother, Mary Ella Brantley, a father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Mozelle Smalley, and other beloved aunts and uncles.

He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Tonya Smalley Brantley, a son Jonathan Brantley, and his wife Amanda. Two apples of his eyes in his granddaughter Abigail and grandson Benjamin Brantley. A brother and sister-in-law Tom and Debra Smalley, a niece Jennifer Smalley Wood (David), and great nieces and a nephew, Hannah, Bailey, and Jackson Wood as well as many numerous friends and extended family members.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at West Acres Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Malone Morris and Pastor Jonathan Brantley officiating. Family will receive friends and family beginning at 1 p.m. before the service. Interment will take place after the service with military honors at Lincolnton City Cemetery in Lincolnton, GA with Pastor Larry Harmon officiating.

Carl Mazzola, Perry Davis, Jack Smalley, Jackson Wood, Malone Morris, and Shane Pangle will be serving as pallbearers.

The family encourages everyone to dress comfortably and vibrantly to honor Mike's love of the Lord, life, and his family.

The family would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff of the cancer floor at Piedmont Hospital for their love and care over these past few weeks. Instead of flowers, Mike and his family wish for those resources to go towards advancing the Gospel through the Missions Fund at West Acres Baptist Church. 555 Gibbs Rd., Evans, GA. 30809.
