LINCOLNTON, GA. - First Sergeant Peter John Olson, 67, Retired United States Army entered into rest on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski and Rev. Don Riddle officiating. Interment with full military honors and masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Christian Williams, Courtney Williams, Tripp Williams, Peter J. "Tre" Olson III, Paul Goodard and Billy Joe Goldman. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post #194, Masonic Lodge #354 , Homer Legg Chapter #535 Order of the Eastern Star and the Patriot Guard. Mr. Olson was the son of the late Art and Mildred Olson of Ramsey, MN. He was retired from the United States Army and attained the rank of First Sergeant while serving his country with honor. First Sergeant Olson was receipt of numerous Medals and Ribbons during his service in Vietnam and Thailand. Some of which included Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. After his career in the military, Mr. Olson retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. After his retirement with the U.S. Postal Service, Pete was able to dedicate his free time to the farm and enjoyed caring for his animals. He was a member of the Central Lutheran Church in Elk River, MN. Mr. Olson was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith Elaine Olson of coon Rapids, MN. Survivors include his wife, Carol Williams Olson; two sons, Peter John Olson, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas and Andrew James "Drew" Olson of Lincolnton; one grandson, Peter J. "Tre" Olson III; two brothers, Luther Olson and wife, Nancy of Anoka, MN. and Timothy Olson and wife, Linda of Harris, MN.; five sisters, Susan Sweet and husband, Wayne of Anoka, MN., Linda Olson of Shoreline, WA., Mary Fitzpatrick and husband, Mitch of Ogilvie, MN., Joan Nolte and husband, Ken of Oak River MN. and Elizabeth "Beth" Descharnais of St. Paul, MN.; numerous nieces and nephews.
