LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mrs. Rivers Imon Gaines Purdy, 82, of 1885 McCormick Hwy. entered into rest on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at her residence. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Lincolnton United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Moon and Rev. Jim Bocian officiating. Interment service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Magnolia Cemetery in Coldwater, MS. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Burgess, John Burgess, Steven Dawkins, Ben Fortson, Jim Heard, Gerald Lawson and Walker Norman. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Boyce McKinney, Edwin Burgess, Ben Ross and the kitchen crew of the Wednesday night suppers. Mrs. Purdy was the daughter of the late Robert and Affie Embry Gaines of Coldwater, MS. She graduated from Coldwater High School and worked for Sears & Roebuck in Memphis, TN. until her marriage to Bruce Dewitt Purdy on September 10, 1949. After relocating to Lincolnton, Mrs. Purdy worked at the Lincoln County Tax Assessors office and was also a longtime employee with Farmers State Bank. She was also a faithful member of the Lincolnton United Methodist Church and the Louise Rees Circle. Survivors include two children, Barbara Purdy of Atlanta, GA. and Frank Purdy and wife, Robin of Nescopeck, PA.; one sister, Kathleen Gaines Hudson and one brother, Robert E. Gaines, both of Coldwater; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Purdy was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Dewitt Purdy.
