Lincolnton, GA. - Mrs. Ruth W. Poland, 86 entered into rest on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. The funeral service will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Joyner officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be J.L. Aycock, Steed Aycock, Richard Goolsby, Melvin Harris, Walker Norman and Garnett Wallace. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie Searles and the ladies of the Cooper House. Mrs. Poland was the daughter of the late Cleborn Benjamin Walker and the late Lillian Ruth Bolton Walker of the Beulah Community. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the Comrades Sunday School Class and also a member of the Lincolnton Lions Club. Mrs. Poland appreciated the beautiful things in life and enjoyed the art of painting and was an avid and knowledgeable sports fan. Survivors include one son, Tommy "Tom" Poland and friend, Noel Hill of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Brenda Poland Willis and husband, Joe and Debra Lynne Poland both of Lincolnton; one "adopted" daughter, Teresa Lynn Burgess of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Poland Shugg and husband, Chris, Rebecca Poland Korom and husband, Mike, Benton Willis Cunningham and husband, Keith and Chelsey Willis Browning and husband, Nick; six great grandchildren, Ben Shugg, Connor Shugg, Katie Shugg, Harper Cunningham, William Korom and Mary Beth Korom; four sisters, Evelyn "Sister" Logan of Graniteville, S.C., Priscilla Styles of Conyers, GA., Shirley Wells and husband, Billy of Belton, S.C. and Imelda Walker of Youngstown, N.Y. Mrs. Poland was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Mitchell Poland, Jr., four brothers, George Walker, Donald Walker, Carroll Walker and C.B. Walker.
