Sarah Teasley Close, affectionately known as "Gammy", passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, in Carlsbad, California, at the age of 81. All who knew her will deeply miss her warm spirit and gentle wisdom.
Sarah was born to Hoke and Janie Teasley in the small northern Georgia town of Lincolnton, GA, where she was a member of Bethany Methodist Church. She attended Reinhardt University and later worked in accounting for Sears, Augusta, GA.
Bob Close and Sarah met in 1967 at the Whisk-a-Go-Go in Augusta, where she was a waitress and he was in the Army. They were married 10 days later. During the following year, they lived in Ft Monmouth, NJ, where she worked at Macy's and he attended US Army Signal school. Bob was sent to Vietnam, and Sarah moved in with his parents in Larchmont, where their son, Christopher, was born.
After Bob's Vietnam tour, they lived together in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and finally California. Daughter Jennifer was born in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1987, Bob's job took them to Carlsbad, CA. During this time, she held various positions, from legal secretary to school secretary, after she retired she volunteered at Carrillo Elementary School where her daughter teaches.
They traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. Her favorite places were London, Paris, and Positano, Italy.
Sarah is survived by husband, Robert, her son, Christopher (Jolynn) and daughter, Jennifer Larochelle (Marc), granddaughter Kristina Larochelle, step grandson, Matthew Boswell (Dani) great-grandson, Mason Boswell, sister, Ellen Schumpert (Roy), and many nieces and nephews from her four deceased siblings: Tommie, Joanne, Jack, and Roger.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:30 pm. at St. Michael's By the Sea chapel in Carlsbad.
