Obituary

AUGUSTA, GA -  Laura "Suzette" (Salter) Adams, 73, entered into rest with her family by her side on December 14, 2022, at her residence.


Suzette was born on September 5, 1949 at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Larry Salter and Mildred Cowan Salter, maternal grandparents Samuel Jordan Cowan, Sr. and Annie Laura McDaniel Cowan, her brother Hugh Larry Salter, paternal grandparents Hugh Lawson Salter and Susie Branch Salter and her mother and father-in-law David Harry Adams and Martha Astin Adams.


After graduating high school, Suzette left Louisville to attend the Barrett School of Nursing at University Hospital. During her time in nursing school, Suzette met many of her long-time nursing friends including her two best friends, Barbara Joy McAdams and Sue S. Estes, who stood by her side until her passing. She graduated in the final nursing school class of 1970 with her diploma in Nursing thus beginning her longstanding love and career in nursing spanning close to 50 years at University Health Care System, now Piedmont Augusta. At the time of her retirement, Suzette had completed her Masters in Nursing and was the Director of Medical Surgical and Critical Care Nursing.


In 1975, Suzette met her future husband, David Earl Adams, on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend, the late Harriet Lass. After a Christmas Eve proposal that year, they married on May 15, 1976 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage together.


In addition to her husband, Suzette is survived by her two daughters, Laura Ashley Adams (Jason Francis) of Augusta, GA and Mallory Adams Smalley (Chris Smalley) of Lincolnton, GA and three grandchildren, Caroline Spence Smalley, Samuel Parker Smalley and Hudson Banks Smalley; as well as her sister, Betty Cowan Walker of Augusta, GA, sister-in-law Beverly Jane Adams of Augusta, GA and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.


To the caregivers of 6W ICU, 10W Jernigan Cancer Center, Regency Hospice, Augusta Oncology and Dr. Jeremy Wells, the family would like to express their gratitude for the love and care she received in her final weeks.


The family will receive visitors at their residence from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday, December 18, 2022. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 2pm in Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA officiated by The Reverend Erwin O. Veale, Jr. and Reverend Scott Inglett Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Golden Harvest Food Bank. "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26
