LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mrs. Sybil Smith Tankersley, 85, wife of the late Melvin Tankersley of Tankersley Rd. entered into rest on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at Double Branches Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Etheridge and Rev. Ficklen Guin officiating. Interment will follow in church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Ford, James R. Neal, Brian Tankersley, Carl Tankersley, Stan Tankersley and Wayne Tankersley. Mrs. Tankersley was a native of Oglethorpe County and the daughter of the late William Bailey and Lady Mae Thomas Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of Double Branches Baptist Church and Women on Mission. Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Tankersley Cockrell and husband, Wayman of Kennesaw, Ga., Glenda Tankersley Newell and husband, Richard of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Marilyn Tankersley of Lincolnton; one brother, Earnest Morris Smith of Comer, Ga.; two grandchildren, Terra Ann Casper and Kevin Cockrell; three great grandchildren, Savannah Grace Casper, Peyton Cockrell and Mason Cockrell; caregiver and friend, Cathy Elder. Mrs. Tankersley was also preceded in death by her daughter, Edith Tankersley.
