Mr. Wallace Bell Clary, age 92, of Dahlonega passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Lanier Lodge in Gainesville, GA. Born September 21, 1924 in Metasville,(Wilkes County, Georgia) to parents William Marvin and Lessie Maude Wolfe Clary, he graduated high school in Washington, Georgia in 1942 before enlisting in the U.S. Army signal corps where he served from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1948 with a degree in business. While at UGA, he met Rose Franklin and they were married on October 2, 1949. Wallace was with Westinghouse Lamp Division from 1949 until January, 1957. During those years, he was re-called into active duty in the U.S. Air Force Reserves during the Korean Conflict with the rank of First Lieutenant. Wallace settled in Atlanta in January of 1957 and began a career as a furniture manufacturing agent. He later branched out into developing real estate in DeKalb, Gwinnett, Toombs and Lumpkin Counties. Wallace was a depression baby and as he grew up, his mindset was always "Damn the torpedoes……full speed ahead"!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Wallace Bell Clary, Jr. and William Mitchell Clary. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Rose Ann Franklin Clary, Dahlonega, daughter; Kathy Clary Patrick (Glenn), Lilburn, GA, son; George Franklin Clary (Phyllis) also of Lilburn ,brother Bill Clary of Buckhead, GA , grandchildren; Virginia Clary, Dr. Caroline Clary, Brandon Patrick and Keri Patrick.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Adams officiating. Military honors will be provided by the White County Honor Guard. Interment will be held in the Lincolnton City Cemetery in Lincolnton, Georgia at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour the day of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rainbow Children's Home, 247 East Main St., Dahlonega, GA 30533 or a charity of choice.
